REPOST: Help! I'm Drowning in Borrowed Xmas Images & Tunes (& a Few of Them are Even Good)

Continuing with the Xmas re-posts from the last coupla years...
http://ttexshexes.blogspot.com/2009/12/help-im-drowning-in-borrowed-xmas.html

From: http://thehauntedlamp.blogspot.com/2009/12/1940s-greetings.html

I thought I might mix up the posts with some vintage Christmas card graphics. I believe these are from the 40's. The lettering and illustration style have a late deco feel.

Vintage Christmas : Freaky Deer Heads
Here are the large versions of these strange 50's, leaf-necked reindeer. They are made of composition with rhinestone eyes. I believe they were meant for store displays. Of course, I don't think the sculptor really understood what deer looked like.

From: http://www.disinfo.com/2009/12/“white-christmas”-songwriter-actually-hated-christmas/

Irving Berlin is by any measure the greatest composer of popular American music, with hundreds of enduring hits, such as “White Christmas,” “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “Alexander’s Ragtime Band,” “Blue Skies,” “A Pretty Girl Is Like a Melody,” and “Easter Parade.” The man who wrote “White Christmas” actually hated Christmas. “Many years later,” daughter Mary Ellin writes, “when Christmas was celebrated irregularly in my parents’ house, if at all, my mother said, almost casually, ‘Oh, you know, I hated Christmas, we both hated Christmas. We only did it for you children.’” (This also had something to do with the fact that they had lost a baby boy on December 25.) Why did an agnostic humanist who loathed Christmas write the song “White Christmas”? Because he needed a number for the 1942 movie Holiday Inn, which called for a song for each major holiday celebrated in the US.

Best known, amongst her many "party" records, is the immortal "I Know What He Wants For Christmas...But I Don't Know How To Wrap It" from 1962. It's a swingin', sleazy little affair, straight outta the "adult" night clubs of the era. Plenty of greasy organ, drums, and stripper horns, all in service to Martin's throaty, suggestive come-ons.

“Um Natal Tranquilo e Prospero” 1966 This is a strange one indeed. A guy alone with his stocks and bonds on Christmas. Yet he’s satisfied with just his pipe and his prosperity. Why is he dressed as Santa? He looks like he just pulled off a heist. Maybe he dressed as Santa for his Wall Street Christmas party and stole everyone’s bonuses.

Wrap it Up: ATOMIC Style - This is some old store wrap (again) that came on a very heavy roll. The paper is very shiny and has gold printing on a sickly green/gold background. Judging by the paper type and the roll it came on, I think it is from the late 60's.

Christmas is Coming (1951) - Long before the introduction of postcodes helped get our Christmas cards delivered on time, the GPO Film Unit commissioned animator Lotte Reiniger to produce several short promotional films using her silhouette technique, aimed at giving the public a gentle nudge. 'Christmas is Coming' sees a grumpy Santa threatening strike action; the day is saved thanks to St. Peter's calm assurances that this year us Brits will "post early for Christmas".
