White Trash Soul » Nikki Sudden - "Reflections On Johnny Thunders" (Excerpt from Sonic Iguana Issue #1, 1997)

http://whitetrashsoul.blogspot.com/2012/05/nikki-sudden-reflections-on-johnny.html

Probably the best piece on Johnny Thunders. The Jewel Thief in a six and a half page tribute/memoir/praise for the Heartbreaker on the Jeff Dahl's old fanzine.
"One reason I think Johnny took to me was due to the strange fact that I told him that I preferred the original mix of L.A.M.F.  to the re-mix that he and Tony James had cobbled together. The subject was never raised again but I can remember the look in Johnny's eyes when I mentioned it first. The fact that I wasn't prepared to suck up to him. Beacuse really no one respects flatterers. Johnny invited me down to some of the rehearsals he was doing for the upcoming show. He was playing about the best guitar I've ever heard anyone play..."

The way rock & roll journalism was meant to be and sadly only a few times was such vibrant. I wish Nikki Sudden was still with us (of course the same for Johnny!). He had so much to offer and the author side of him only a bit developed... You can't put your arms around a memory!

Jack Ruby's Carousel Club

Jack Ruby, The Carousel Club, in Dallas. The Carousel sat across the street from the Hotel Adolphus at 1312½ Commerce St., upstairs from a delicatessen. The outdoor walls were covered with provocative photos of scantily clad burlesque dancers, offering a glimpse of what could be viewed inside for a $2 cover charge. The dancers drew large crowds to three stages where they stripped down to g-strings and pasties.

Strippers in the Carousel Club. Penny Dollar, Marilyn April Walle, Nancy Jane Mooney and Janet Conforto known as Jada.

Dan Fante - Fante A Memoir

This is one of the most powerful books I've read in years. An autobiographical masterpiece of brutal no-punches-pulled-confessional-honesty that raises the bar when it comes to how far a writer will go to tell it exactly as it happened, warts and all, and in graphic detail.

Those wishing to find out more about the life of John Fante will be amply rewarded by his son's candid account of the great writer's life. But this book gives us far more than that. It awakens something somewhere deep.
