Artaud in Full Bloom (1 of a collection at link)
"Where others present their works, I claim to do no more than show my mind." -- Artaud, The Umbilicus of Limbo (1925)
I covered Artaud only once before, in my 16th-ever post back in August 2007, which downplays how important his writings are to me. Read him at any time, but the younger and angrier the better.
From a letter to Paule Thevenin dated Feb. 24, 1948. Artaud died on March 4, 1948:
"I had a vision this afternoon -- I saw those who are going to follow me and who are still not completely embodied because pigs like those at the restaurant last night eat too much. There are some who eat too much and others like me who can no longer eat without spitting."

Charlie Roberts is a consummate collector of images, with an organizational system resembling the interior of a Whitman's Sampler. He perceives the world of people and things as a philatelist does, sifting through an unwieldy compendium of faces, hairdos, boots, magazines, art, animals, vehicles, potables, and foodstuffs, and then using gouache to depict portions of this array with varying degrees of fidelity. Noodles are a beautiful thing—watching them being made, even more so. This photo from Rodzillaaaaa on Flickr captures the art of whipping hand-pull noodles in mid-flight.

Franz von Stuck - Tilla Durieux as Circe (1913)
He's lost out to Klimt in the reputation stakes, probably more because of Klimt's decorative qualities than through any fault of his own, but I prefer Von Stuck myself, as he seems to be hauling his images toward him from his dreams, rather than brushing them on to the canvas.
Google him to see what I mean.
Tilla Durieux was also painted by Renoir the next year, but he gave her hands like a pork-butcher which I am sure she must have hated.

Saturday Night's Alright for Even a Few, More, Good Borrowed Images

From: http://pappaoomaumau.blogspot.com/2009/08/necessary-evils.html

Interplanetary transmissions & the sound of blood lust-get ready for the extreme psychodelic & otherworldly sounds of the Necessary Evils. Their brand of sci-fi inspired fuzz rock stands alone. Founded in 1997 by Steve Pallow (formerly of The Beguiled) & James Arthur (formerly of Fireworks) & rounding out their line up with Kyle John Hall on drums & Jimmy Hole on bass, The Evils have carved a nasty path of destruction over the last few years. Their's is the darkest, sickest, meanest sound around-truly the product of a disturbed psyche. Steve Pallow's voice issues warnings & threats throughout their rock n' roll demolition derby while James Arthur wrangles sounds out of his beat up Electra guitar that range from the sound of metal on metal grinding to that made by a flying saucer. Jimmy & Kyle's rhythm gives one very fat bottom to this ugly beast. With a nod to 60's psychedelic music (see covers of The Seeds, Black Rose, White Light & ineptitude kings The Keggs). The Evils make a racket that's brutal, intrusive and uncompromising.(FROM THE IN THE RED WEBSITE)

Bride Ballyhoo
For the enterprising exhibitor, the gag handouts could be rolled into an elaborate lobby display, the “First Aid Lobby Booth Stunt”, providing “everything necessary for the audience who suffer ‘thrill-shock” when seeing THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN”. The booth should be “painted white, with the cross in red to make it as realistic as possible”. Items, “all easily obtainable”, included hair straightener and hair dye, spirits of ammonia, gum and cigarettes. Universal would recycle this stunt as the “First-Aid For Shock Booth” in the mid-40s for its House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula monster rallies, calling it “a time-honored stunt… should be taken from your files and dusted off.” (via Frankensteinia)

I have a confession to make....I really don't care so much about blogging per se, it's just a really easy way to keep track of things I like and might need to find again in the future. So when I came across this poster on Turksville I had to post it here....I had seen it years ago on artist Keith Weesner's site and lost it....so now I know where to look for it again.

There are pictures that you come across that just make you stop for a second. I believe the youth of today call it a WTF moment. Well, this one did exactly that to me - and made me wonder what on earth was the cause for this particular photo opportunity.

Willy DeVille News

(FROM SOPHIE MAHKO)

http://azkenarockfestival2.foroes.net/la-plazoleta-f13/willy-de-ville-enfermo-t10383.htm

...THE FOLLOWING TEXT IS THE CONTENT OF THE LINK ABOVE:

Monday, June 8th 2009 21:43

It’s very hard for me to write this letter / newsletter.

In the last fan magazine you could read that Willy was having a tough time right now.

He was diagnosed with Hepatitis C, as was Nina.

So Nina cancelled all 2009 concerts and assumed that Willy would be alright after 48 weeks of treatment. Then all of a sudden Willy got real sick, and the doctors tested him and tested him.

During the tests they hoped that it would be only Hepatitis C, but unfortunately the reality is different. The test has shown that Willy has Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

The DeVilles want you, Willy’s fans, to be the first to hear about this devastating news. And Nina wants you to know that he has absolute no pain and that he’s being taken care of really really good. And that he jokes about them being in their “bird house”. A nurse comes once a week. The doctor comes once a week and a social worker comes once a week….

This is all the news I have right now, of course the fan club will keep you posted,

Nina originally kept if from the fans but then realized that the fans are the ones that makes him really happy

That’s why she’s having a request: Please support Willy in this difficult time of his life. Please send cards and letters to him addressed to the fan club:
